My Favorite Happy Valley Stops for the Holiday Season

My Favorite Happy Valley Stops for the Holiday Season

Just about everyone who lives in State College knows that there is something about December that makes downtown feel magical. The lights seem brighter, and the corner of College & Allen is spectacular. It is the kind of season that makes you want to slow down and enjoy what is right here.

If you are planning a holiday stroll, don’t forget that downtown offers free holiday parking this time of year. The full schedule is posted on Downtown State College’s website, so you can check the details there and plan your trip with no stress.

If you are heading downtown to shop and want a few local ideas, here are places we love and visit ourselves. I’ve broadened the horizon and added a few other favorites outside of downtown to the list.

Town Pride State College (of course I have to start with us!)
Made in the USA sweaters, local gifts, and a whole lot of Happy Valley pride. If you are shopping for someone who loves State College, you will find something that feels right. Our 12 Days of Christmas from December 9 to 21 makes it worth stopping by!

Avante Garden
A bright and welcoming full-service florist on Calder…right below our store! Avante Garden has fresh arrangements, small gifts, plants, and pieces that feel thoughtful for the holidays. It is an easy place to stop when you want something pretty and meaningful without overthinking it.

Way Fruit Farm Downtown
A cozy place for jams, baked treats, and small gifts that feel personal. Their downtown spot has a warm feeling the second you step inside. It is my favorite spot downtown for a reliable quick lunch!

The Cheese Shoppe
A long-time favorite in State College. Coffee beans, cheeses, and specialty items fill the shop this time of year. It is a place people return to because it feels familiar. The aroma! Oh my!

Antifragile Brewing Co.
A good place to warm up while you shop. You can grab a drink, pick up a gift card, or take a short break before heading on to your next stop.

Boal City Brewing
Just a short drive from downtown, in Boalsburg. This brewery and beer garden is worth the trip. With a great craft beer lineup and a relaxed indoor and outdoor space near the forest, it has an easygoing feel that works well for a holiday stop or a simple, thoughtful gift. My husband and I take our puppy there to socialize him….that’s our excuse anyway. 😉

VHS Skate Shop
A fun shop for skaters and anyone who likes something a little different. It is full of personality, and Clint is a great dude!

Bill Pickle’s Tap Room
A local go-to. If you are grabbing a bite or thinking about a gift card for someone who enjoys a night out, Pickle’s is a solid choice and always lively. Say hi to all my friends that work there, and tell them Lisa sent you!

Tussey Mountain
From January to March, when I’m not at Town Pride, this is where you will find me! My husband helps with the TMART Race Team, and it is our winter “home away from home.” ❤️

Tussey sits just outside town and always feels like a small escape. A gift card here works well for anyone who enjoys skiing, snowboarding, or spending time outdoors. It is an easy experience gift that turns into a memory, and it fits the holiday spirit without any fuss.

Penn’s Woods Forest and Farm Collective (The Pop-Up at 236 Calder Way)
The newest addition to the Pop-Up space on Calder Way. Penn’s Woods offers a thoughtful mix of farm and forest inspired goods that bring a calm, seasonal feeling to the block.

The holidays give us an excuse to explore, support local places, and enjoy the little pockets of charm around State College. Whether you are picking up a gift or simply soaking in the atmosphere, we hope you enjoy the season and everything our area has to offer.

And of course, we would love to see you at Town Pride State College, 240 E. Calder Way!
